Actually renewable energies contribute with 32 % to the German national generation of electric power. This figure looks similar to the Chinese ratio of 25 %. Unfortunately in Germany 26% renewable infeed is from highly fluctuating source like photovoltaic and wind energy, while in China only 5% of the electric energy is from photovoltaic and wind energy.

In the North East of Germany more than 100% renewables will be fed to the regional distribution grids. So beside grid extension and research in storage technology a lot of effort will be put to use flexible loads within SMART Grids. Research and prototype installations will focus on power-to-gas, power-to-heat and power-to-vehicle.

After explanation on the situation in the German grid including a comparison with Chinese situation the presentation will show the BTU research SMART Grid, which is now part of the National Show Case program in SMART Energies. Done and planned activities in power-to-vehicle, as well as in vehicle-to-grid will be described and also the ongoing ideas on the roll-out of charging infrastructure in the province of Brandenburg will be explained.
