Exam methods

Course examination is carried out according to the course examination management regulations of USST. According to "Regulations on Course Examinations for Full-time Undergraduates of University of Shanghai for Science and Technology", the forms of examinations include written examination, oral examination, experimental and documental report, etc.

To facilitate students to prepare for exams, exams are usually arranged in the exam week at the end of each semester, and the exam time of some electives may be arranged by the teachers themselves, but they should be completed in current semester. The exam form has been explicitly explained in the syllabus of each course of Module Handbook, therefore, students could know the exam form of a course upon selecting it.

Course evaluation results will be recorded in student archives at overall evaluation score. Overall evaluation score is consisted of usual performance and final exam score. Usual performance will be given according to the attendance, assignments, quizzes and mid-term exam, etc. In principle, usual performance accounts for 30% - 50% of the overall evaluation score of a course, while final exam score accounts for 50% - 70%. The overall evaluation score at 60 means pass, and corresponding course credits can be obtained only if the overall evaluation score is pass or above. Students’ sports course score will be determined comprehensively according to students’ attendance, curricular teaching and relevant extracurricular activities. The overall assessment of student's courses adopts grade point system, the student score lists of the two programs in the academic year of 2015-2016 are provided in Appendixes N1 and N2, respectively, and the method of conversion between course evaluation results and grade points is provided in Appendixes E and F.

A 12-week bachelor thesis will be arranged in the eighth semester, and students are required to independently complete tasks and write thesis under the guidance of supervisors. As for off-campus bachelor thesis, students are required to keep contact with their supervisors on campus, and report thesis progress in writing at least once every week, so as to ensure the progress is in sync with bachelor thesis progress on-campus.
