Quality assurance and further development
Internal teaching quality evaluation In each semester, the University, every School and every program carry out mid-term and final teaching inspection, bachelor thesis process inspection, teaching order inspection, and the inspection of lesson plans, test papers and other basic teaching materials, to discover and solve possible problems arising in teaching and management process. Taking test paper inspection for example, in every semester the USST and every School conduct random inspection on test papers of last semester, and make evaluation from such three aspects as test paper scores, test paper analysis, and improvement measures, so as to promote test paper standardization. In every semester, every School will analyze exam score distribution and student scoring for teachers teaching, etc., and propose recommendations and requirements on teachers to improve teaching quality.
External teaching quality evaluation The School adopts student’s employer feedback system, and listens to the advices from employers. In addition, the School has introduced external supervision, for example, the School has participated in the Undergraduate Teaching Evaluation of Higher Education Institutes launched by the Chinese Ministry of Education and the Outstanding Undergraduate Program Assessment organized by Shanghai Municipal Education Commission, which helps forming the teaching quality evaluation mechanism that features the joint involvement of higher authorities, employers, the University, teachers and students, and the combination of internal evaluation and external evaluation.

The School will arrange dedicated staff to analyze scores, and provide relevant suggestions for students according to the analysis results, so as to improve student learning outcomes. If a student fails to pass the exams of courses of two competence fields, a dedicated counselor will be arranged to supervise and guide the student’s subsequent course study, and keep contact with the student’s parents, as well as promptly notify the parents about the student’s in-university performance. The School will reward those counselors who have achieved good guidance results.
The evaluation of students on teaching quality The evaluation of students on teaching quality is an important part of teaching evaluation system. Every student must submit evaluation forms on teachers’ teaching quality before selecting courses every semester, otherwise will not be able to select courses for the new semester. Teaching suggestions listed in the form of evaluation will be analyzed and utilised for improving teaching methods. The evaluation of students will also be utilised for assessing the teaching quality of teachers and be linked with teachers’ work performance.
